GA Logbook Convert

Your paper logbook, in GA Pilot Log.

Years of flying in a paper logbook? Send us photos of the pages. We read every row, check it against your page totals, ask you about anything that's hard to read, and send you a file that brings it all into GA Pilot Log.

You get a quote before you pay anything.
How it works

You check it before you pay for it.

You see what we've read, and settle anything we weren't sure of, before you're asked to pay.

Photograph your pages

One photo of each open spread, or the left and right pages separately. Phone photos are fine. Email them to us, or ask for an upload link if there are a lot.

We read them

Every row is read in order: dates, aircraft, crew, route and remarks, and each time column. Each page learns the aircraft, people and places from the pages before it.

You answer a few questions

Anything that's hard to read comes back as a plain question. "Is this VH-ABC or VH-ABG?" "These times don't add up to the page total. Which is right?" You answer once and it's fixed for the rest of the logbook.

You choose your custom fields

Ruled-in columns and notes you've kept over the years, such as survey, ag, formation, fuel or passengers, can each become a custom field. Keep them, rename them, or leave them in the remarks.

Accept the quote and pay

When you're happy with what we've read, we send you a quote, priced per page. Pages we couldn't read aren't charged.

Import into GA Pilot Log

You get a file to open in GA Pilot Log under Logbook › Import from GA Logbook Convert. You see every flight before anything is added to your logbook.

Checked, not just typed

Your page totals keep us honest.

Paper logbooks already carry their own check: the totals at the foot of every page. We use them.

  • Each page's rows are added up and compared with your "totals this page".
  • Brought-forward totals are checked against the page before.
  • Ditto marks, missing months and the year rolling over are worked out for you.
  • Registrations written without a prefix get yours (MRP becomes VH-MRP); RAAus numbers stay as written.
  • Struck-out and overwritten entries are flagged, never guessed silently.

Getting good photos

A minute per page makes all the difference.

☀️

Even light

Daylight near a window works best. Avoid the flash and your own shadow across the page.

📐

Straight on, whole page

Hold the phone above the page, not at an angle, with all four edges and the totals row in the photo.

📖

Flat as you can

Press the logbook open so the rows near the spine aren't curved away.

🔢

In order

Take the pages front to back. Photos are put in order by their file names, the way your camera numbers them.

FAQ

Questions about converting.

Which logbooks can you convert?

We currently read the Australian CASA-style pilot logbook. If yours is laid out differently (RAAus, FAA, EASA or your own), email us a photo of one page and we'll tell you whether we can do it.

How much does it cost?

It's priced per page, and you get a quote after you've seen what we've read and before you pay. Pages we couldn't read aren't charged; you can send a better photo of them instead.

How long does it take?

Pages are read one after another, so a full logbook takes a little while. We'll let you know when yours is ready to check. The rest depends on how quickly you answer our questions.

Do I need to send my actual logbook?

No. Photos are all we need, and your logbook never leaves your hands. If you can't take the photos yourself, email us and we'll work something out.

Who reads my pages?

Your photos are read by Claude, an AI model made by Anthropic, using our business account, and checked against your page totals. Anything it isn't sure of comes to you as a question. See our privacy policy for how your photos are handled and when they're deleted.

Can I import into another logbook app?

The file is made for GA Pilot Log. Once your flights are in GA Pilot Log you can export them as a spreadsheet (CSV) from Logbook › Export Spreadsheet.

Will it replace my paper logbook?

It puts your history into GA Pilot Log so your totals and currency are complete. Keep your paper logbook too: it's the original record. In Australia, CASR 61.345 allows an electronic logbook; check your own situation with CASA or your examiner.
